Abstract
This text examines the regulatory responses arrived at in Italy to strike a balance between the right to information and research, on the one hand, and the right to the protection of personal data, on the other. This extremely complex problem has no simple solution. Based on the Italian experience, we reflect on the necessary balance, which is always provisional and perfectible, between the need to defend the person's individual rights and the right to information.
