Abstract

Since the outbreak of the current world financial crisis, many thought that the Left would recover from
the shock it suffered with the fall of the so-called real existing Socialism. Until now, though, this was not the
case. This article focuses on two different texts, both recent and relevant to understand the current state
of the Left culture. The first is a discussion that took place in the New Left Review, and the second is F. Jameson’s last book, Representing Capital, where he offers a new reading of volume I of Das Kapital. It is
argued here that these two sources show very clearly some of the main political problems of the present.
