Resumen
El artículo intenta reconstruir los contextos efecti-
vos de emergencia de Ediciones Signos, una edito-
rial que funcionó a principios de la década del ‘70,
momento de «ebullición» del mundo editorial de
izquierda. Luego de funcionar por poco más de un
año, y de publicar alrededor de 20 libros, la edito-
rial se disolvió para dar origen a una mucho más cono-
cida: Siglo XXI-Argentina. Se privilegia como entra-
da a esa experiencia editorial la reconstrucción del
plan inicial de ediciones y de los libros efectivamen-
te publicados por Signos. Esa reconstrucción del
catálogo —efectivo y potencial— permite una apro-
ximación que restituye las posibilidades y opciones
abiertas en aquel momento, eludiendo las trampas
de los relatos retrospectivos. Entre éstos últimos,
se pretende cuestionar especialmente las simplifi-
caciones que implican las hipótesis habituales sobre
el proceso de creciente politización de los intelec-
tuales de izquierda durante el período.

Abstract
The paper tries to rebuild the effective emergency
contexts of Ediciones Signos, a publishing house that
worked at the beginning of the ‘ 70s, time in which
the publishing world of the left «boiling». After to
work for little more than a year, and published some
20 books, the publishing house was dissolved to give
rise to a much more well-known: Siglo XXI -
Argentina. The reconstruction of the initial plan of
editions and the books actually published by Signos
are privileged as input to that editorial experience.
This reconstruction of the catalogue —actual and
potential— allows an approximation that restores
the possibilities and options open at that time, elu-
ding the traps of the retrospective accounts. Among
the latter, the paper intends to discuss particularly
the simplifications that mean the usual hypothesis
about the process of increasing politicization of the
leftist intellectuals during the period.
