The books of the new left in massive print runs: the Popular Series of Era Editions (1969 1989)

Abstract

This paper analyzes the Serie Popular collection, published by Ediciones Era, between 1969 and 1989, as part of the initiatives taken by the Mexican left in the last third of the 20th century to disseminate currents linked to the new left, while seeking a mass audience for its publications. From the sociocultural history of publishing, it seeks to contribute to a better understanding of the political uses of popular collections, as well as the circulation of intellectual currents linked to the left in the context of the cold war. To this end, the catalog was reconstructed and emphasis was placed on the perspective of the producers based on their editorial strategies.
